This post is a personal account of why I decided to pursue a professional certificate at MIT in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence.
Self Serve Analytics
I recently did a stint at a start up that created an incredible product for self service analytics. Their idea was that Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs) have been left behind when it comes to advanced analytics tools. Without a data infrastructure team, analysts are limited to second class built in analytics features of other systems already in place at the company.
Limitations
The start up's product addressed three common frustrations:
Inability to track industry standard metrics such as Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) and Sales Pipeline Flows
Lack of historical data making changes over time nearly impossible to track
No way to incorporate data from multiple data sources
Problem Solved
The powerful tool this company built not only resolved the above issues, but it was super intuitive to use. While onboarding customers I got a glimpse into the convoluted workarounds they previously had in place, utilizing features of Excel and Google Sheets I never knew existed. However, I was really amazed by how quickly the analysts jumped onto the new system. After hundreds of hours are poured into a project, analysts are usually very hesitant to give up what they've created. But in this instance they easily recognized the transparency, accuracy, and efficiency of the new system. Instead of wasting time doing calculations manually and painstakingly ensuring data accuracy, analysts saw that using the new system they had the tools to take their work to the next level and provide exponentially more impact.
Bluefield Expands AI Expertise
My mission at Bluefield Analytics has always been to enable data backed decision making. While it will be some time before self serve analytics becomes widespread, I am preparing and broadening the scope of our services by honing my AI skills.
I'm pursuing a professional certificate at MIT in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence starting with a course in Applied Data Science and focusing on "leveraging AI for effective decision making."
Bluefield Analytics is still operating as usual. In fact, I'm happy to announce that we fully embrace self serve analytics. Whether you need help choosing the right tool for in house use or you want Bluefield to manage your analytics on a "self service" tool, we are here for you.
